I think you can find the check for updates menu by clicking in the support icon. That will tell you what version you are on, what the current version is, and provide a link tot he release notes.

The log file gets overwritten each time the sync runs. You can find historical sync errors (though not the full log) in the [YourDatabaseName].[dbo].[error_table]. Sorry for the late reply. Hope that helps someone.
